Karl Rove Reveals Which Party Is Going to Win High-Stakes Gerrymandering War
Fox News contributor and longtime GOP operative Karl Rove revealed on Thursday which of America’s two major political parties he believes is going to win the ongoing redistricting war that could help shape the partisan makeup of Congress for years to come.
During a segment about Republicans’ efforts to gerrymander Texas and Democrats’ efforts to do the same in blue states, anchor Bill Hemmer played clips of various Democrats suggesting that they would need to strike back once the GOP is done carving up the Lone Star State.
“I hate what Texas is doing, but if they’re going to do it, of course we have to fight back,” submitted Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT). “I mean, listen, democracies die when the regime plays outside the box and the opposition decides to stay inside the box.”
“So outside of Texas, Ohio has to do it by law. California might do it as well. I wonder if this is a wash in the end or not,” mused Hemmer before asking Rove for his “best guess.”
“My best guess is that it works more for Republican advantages, because California is not going to be able to do it; I think there are some legal strictures there, and Ohio and Texas are more Republican states,” answered Rove. “But look, both parties, when they have the power to redistrict in a way that advantages the party in power in their state, they do it — whether it’s Illinois and New York for the Democrats, or Texas and Ohio for the Republicans. We may not like it, but it’s the reality of politics.”
