Late Night May Finally Get a (Fictional) Female Host

When CBS got the chance to replace both David Letterman and Craig Ferguson in its late night lineup next year, the network opted for another two white guys. Then, when they had the opportunity to bring some fresh faces to late night through a series of interim guest hosts, there were again no women on the list (not counting one week of The Talk at 12:30 a.m.)
So now, it looks like the only way to get a woman installed as host of a major late night talk show will be for a woman to write it into a comedy pilot. And that’s exactly what actress Lauren Graham plans to do in a new project with executive producer Ellen DeGeneres.
Variety is reporting that Graham, who spent seven years on Gilmore Girls and is about to wrap up six on Parenthood, is developing the show, titled Kate on Later, for NBC. If it gets picked up, she will co-write the series and star as the highly unrealistic female host of a late night talk show.
