Maher: People on Internet ‘Lay in Wait’ for Un-PC Statements

Bill Maher and Comedy Central host Chris Hardwick agreed on Real Time Friday night that the internet — that’s us! — has amplified the political correct outrage caucus to the point that people seem to prefer blowing their lids over understanding others.

“I feel like the internet has made that so much worse,” Maher said, “because people just sit there and lay in wait for someone to say something politically incorrect, and then pat themselves on the back, ‘I’m the good person, and I’m gonna go after this person who’s the bad person,’ like it’s Galileo against the church.”

“I like to seek understanding first,” Hardwick said. “You should always seek first to understand. Because once you start fighting, you’re not reaching common ground, you’re not understanding each other. So I’m honestly hoping that a lot of it is just releasing tension for people, they’re not really as angry as you think.”

Fun fact: Bill Maher used to host a show called Politically Incorrect.
