Meredith Vieira Thinks ‘Hummer’ Is A Perfectly Innocent Word

Friday’s Today Show featured a light-hearted segment on the pitfalls of naming car models, highlighting some of the best (and worst) names in automotive history. At the top of the inappropriate name list was the now-defunct Hummer, for reasons that were completely lost on host Meredith Vieira.

Among the best car names, the segment concluded? Mustang, Corvette, and Golf– trusted cars with catchy names. Among the worst– Hummer, for making 12-year-old boys everywhere laugh. Not laughing was Vieira, who naively comments, “I didn’t know ‘hummer’ had a bad meaning!” Her colleague Jenna Wolff comforted her by claiming she didn’t really get it either, but she was probably just excited to introduce Vieira to UrbanDictionary.com during the break.
