Miss Michigan Introduces Herself By Blasting Flint Michigan Water Problems
Critics often dismiss beauty pageants as vapid displays of sexist objectification…and they are right!
But this year’s Miss America pageant featured a surprisingly refreshing moment of candor when Miss Michigan introduced herself with a political zing that has gone viral.
“From the state with 84% of the United States’ fresh water but none for its residents to drink” said Emily Sioma, as she introduced herself to the television audience and judges alike. This brought attention to the plight of Flint, Michigan residents, many of whom have still been without drinkable water available as a basic public service.
