Morning Joe Sounds the Alarm Over ‘Republican Propaganda Machine’ Smearing Biden: ‘Fascists are So Good at Propaganda’

Morning Joe went off on the pervasive claims of President Joe Biden’s alleged influence peddling and corruption and pivoted to blaming his critics, in particular, all that conservative media has done to fuel that narrative.

On Wednesday, the show had The Atlantic’s Franklin Foer on to talk about his contribution to the magazine’s full-length issue on what could happen if former President Donald Trump is reelected in 2024. During this conversation, Joe Scarborough looked at how Trump is trying to accuse Biden of being a threat to democracy in order to deflect the same long-standing accusations he has faced on that subject.

“Fascists are unusually successful at propaganda, turning things around, confusing the electorate,” Scarborough said. “Look at corruption. Not just what Donald Trump has done, but look what all of the right-wing media has done! They have gotten a son that had problems with crack. They have chased down every lead they could chase down. They made fools of themselves time and time again. But it has worked! They’re lying about the corrupt Biden family. Clarence Thomas’ wife talking about the Biden crime family should be on barges outside of Gitmo. Repeating this lie, this fascist attempt, this fascist lie, over and over and over again. You look at the polls; it’s worked!… Fascists are so good at propaganda, it’s actually working.”

Foer agreed with all of this as he added that Biden’s critics seized upon the shady activities of Biden’s son, and then it was “inflated by the Fox News Republican propaganda machine into the Biden crime family.”

“I think that a lot of us would like to believe that that type of misinformation, that type of spun-up narrative is something that would only exist within the minds of the people who watched Fox News all day long,” Foer continued. “But when you have the power of the congressional bully pulpit — and look in the ways in which media has miscovered this issue along the way — you can see that that narrative has traveled into the mainstream. There are a lot of independent voters, a lot of Democrats that seem to believe Biden is corrupt. So the issue is much more muddy than it should be.”
