Morning Joe: Would Gingrich Seek An Alliance With Santorum Out Of ‘Vengeance, Not Victory’?
Friday on Morning Joe, the show’s panel discussed what a Gingrich / Santorum alliance might mean for Mitt Romney. After reading Joe McQuaid‘s column on why conservatives need to “rally around” Newt Gingrich, host Mika Brzezinski read from an op-ed piece by Charles Krauthammer on a “possible pact” between the former Speaker and Rick Santorum.
At least one lesson gleaned from these articles: Try, if you can, to refrain from using the phrase “big mo” to describe “momentum.”
Host Joe Scarborough pointed out that Gingrich, despite how he fared in Iowa, has done well in debates and stands to succeed in the upcoming Florida and South Carolina primaries. Shifting focus to Santorum, Scarborough assessed that he’s “not Herman Cain,” but rather “this is a guy that has worked hard, that has studied, he’s done it over the past 15, 20 years. He knows what he’s talking about. You can disagree with him or agree with him, but he’s going to hold his own in the debate against anybody.”
However, in his op-ed piece on the matter, Krauthammer opined that an alliance with Santorum would make no strategic sense for Gingrich’s campaign, “except that Gingrich is after vengeance, not victory.”
Also worth noting: Scarborough’s reaction to calling the GOP candidates a “ship of fools.”
