Newsmax Host Loses It After Bad Bunny Tapped for Super Bowl Halftime Show: ‘Hates the English Language’
Like many conservative pundits, Newsmax’s Greg Kelly is not pleased with the NFL’s choice for halftime entertainment at Super Bowl LX in February.
On Sunday night, the league announced that Bad Bunny would do the honors at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Spanish-language rapper, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, triggered a wave of criticism from the right over his criticism of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Bad Bunny has said he does not tour in the 50 states because agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement might be present to look for undocumented immigrants attending his shows.
“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate,” said this month. “Specifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an unincorporated territory of the U.S. … people from the U.S. could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world.”
On Monday’s Greg Kelly Reports, the host explained his displeasure:
So you heard about this guy, da bunny? Is that his name? Bad Bunny. Bad, Bad Bunny! He’s the Super Bowl attraction. He’s gonna play the Super Bowl halftime show. I remember in the 1990s, they once had a great big 50th anniversary of Snoopy and Charlie Brown. Snoopy and Charlie Brown.
Now we have da bunny, who hates America, hates President Trump, hates ICE, hates the English language. He’s just a terrible person.
Kelly noted Bad Bunny’s stated reason for not touring in the U.S., and said, “Well, anyway, I’m very concerned about this guy showing up at the Super Bowl.”
The host said the halftime show choice is “yet another reason to not watch football.”
“Boycott it, read a book, go to church,” he told viewers. “I’m serious. NFL. No freaking… life. no. I’ll get back to you on the ‘L’. I’ll be right back.”
Upon returning from break, Kelly offered another abbreviation for NFL.
“No future, loser,” he said, “That’s one nomination from somebody. I don’t know what it stands for, but I want no part of it. Da baby, da bunny. Bad Bunny. Terrible guy, terrible sport. It’s over. I feel like I got an extra six hours every weekend. What are you gonna do with your extra time? I’ll see you tomorrow.”
