‘No’: Trump Admits Doesn’t Have Evidence to Back His Claim Vaccine Is ‘Lethal’

President Donald Trump admitted Monday that he had no evidence to support his claim, made just minutes earlier, that the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine is “lethal,” answering, “No,” when pressed for proof.

The moment occurred during an executive order signing ceremony at the White House, where Trump, alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., unveiled a sweeping overhaul of federal childhood vaccine recommendations, dubbed the “Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations.” The order calls for spreading childhood immunizations across separate medical appointments, eventually splitting the combined MMR vaccine into three individual shots, and reorganizing vaccines into different tiers based on risk.

Before it came time for reporters to ask questions, the president claimed that the combined MMR vaccine “could” be “quite lethal.”

“Together, there could be a possibility they’re quite lethal, and separately, uh, it looks like they are not at all lethal,” he said.

Once the press were invited to speak, a reporter asked Trump, “I think I heard you say that the MMR vaccine, for measles, mumps, and rubella, is quite lethal. Is there any evidence of that?”

“No,” the president conceded. “What I’ve heard is that there, there are some people that say it is that way, and I say, ‘Well, let’s say there’s a 5% chance of it.’ Let’s split it up. Let’s split it up because they do say that, given individually — MMR — that given individual, there is no impact. In fact, they’ve said how safe it seems to be. But I’ve heard when you put ’em together, they can be explosive.”

According to The Washington Post, which first reported on Trump’s executive order, “Medical experts have said that the single MMR shot is proved to be safe and effective and that breaking it up could leave children vulnerable to dangerous diseases for longer.”
