Joe Scarborough Mocks Bill Cassidy, Claims His Legacy Will Be Marred by Decisive Votes on Trump Nominees: ‘What Was It Worth?’

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough mocked Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) for casting the key vote to confirm Todd Blanche as U.S. attorney general, jibing that the Republican senator’s legacy “in history” would be marred by his backing of both Blanche and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Blanche, President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, was narrowly confirmed by just one vote overnight on Saturday, ending a months-long standoff between the White House and Senate Republicans over his nomination.

Blanche, who had served as acting attorney general since Pam Bondi’s departure in April, was confirmed in a 50-49 vote after Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) joined Democrats in opposition.

Cassidy, however, ultimately cast the deciding vote.

Cassidy’s vote was also the difference in advancing Kennedy’s nomination in February 2025, despite having expressed principled opposition to his candidacy and saying he trusted the now-Health Secretary’s “assurances on vaccines.”

On Monday’s Morning Joe, Scarborough laughed out loud as his co-host Mika Brzezinski noted Blanche was confirmed with a “narrow vote” and that it “essentially came down to Cassidy’s one vote” of approval.

“So he’ll be responsible in history for RFK Jr. and the lunacy there and the attorney general that will conduct more retribution campaigns than anyone else in American history as well,” Scarborough quipped.

“Good on ya, Bill,” he mocked.

Brzezinski went on to say that Cassidy was “defending” his vote when Scarborough cut her off.

“No, there’s no defense of it Bill!” he declared. “There’s no defense of RFK Jr. I really – seriously, what was it worth for you?”

“We’ll find out!” he teased.
