Oprah Has Everything, Including A Secret Half-Sister Named Patricia
Over the years, Oprah Winfrey has made a name for herself by surprising her viewers with revelations and awesome gifts, often quite loudly and with great fanfare. Now, it seems to be her turn to receive a shocking surprise. You get a long-lost secret sister, and you get a long-lost secret sister! And a pashmina wrap.
This morning, Oprah revealed during a taping of her show that she recently learned of the existence of a half-sister now living in Milwaukee.
The woman, named Patricia, was given up for adoption by Oprah’s mother as a baby. Patricia said she had suspected Oprah might be her sister (Hey, me too.) after watching an interview with her mother, Vernita Lee, wherein Lee revealed information about her birth family that Patricia had already been told. The interview inspired Patricia, who had been trying to find information about her birth family since her 20s, to seek out DNA from her potential family members, including Oprah’s niece. The results of the DNA test prompted Oprah to confront her mother, who confirmed that Patricia was indeed also her daughter.
The two sisters met for the first time this past Thanksgiving, when Oprah and her partner, Steadman Graham, drove to Milwaukee for the reunion.
