OU Frat Hires Lawyer Who Defended Oklahoma City Bomber
Sigma Alpha Epsilon, a fraternity that was recently shut down at the University of Oklahoma after a racist chant of some of its members was caught on video, has reportedly hired the attorney who defended Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh as the fraternity decides whether to pursue legal action after two students involved were expelled from the public university.
According to KOKH, Fox’s local affiliate in Oklahoma City, Stephen Jones has been hired by the board of the SAE chapter for possible plans to sue OU and its president David Boren for shutting down the fraternity and expelling the two members. Jones confirmed to the Oklahoman that he had been hired by the ousted SAE chapter.
One of the students who was expelled, Parker Rice, apologized in a statement earlier this week, while the parents of the other expelled student, Levi Pettit, issued a statement defending their son against accusations of racism. The incident has been the subject of cable news debates and late-night comedy shows.
Jones is expected to give a press conference sometime Friday afternoon.
