Pam Bondi Leaves Door Open to ‘Seeking Death Penalty’ in DC Shooting Case
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi suggested that the death penalty remains firmly on the table after the shooting of a young couple, both Israeli embassy staffers, on Wednesday night.
Speaking to Fox News on America’s Newsroom Thursday, Bondi declined to offer specific details about the suspect or motive in the killing of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, who were gunned down outside the Capital Jewish Museum after attending an event there.
However, when pressed by network anchor Bill Hemmer on next steps, she made clear that capital punishment remains a viable option under her watch, drawing a sharp contrast with the Biden DOJ’s moratorium on federal executions.
I was a career capital prosecutor, what I can say in any case now – I’m not just commenting on it – it is with my office. You weigh the facts, you look at the law, and I signed a death warrant yesterday on a case. So we are seeking the death penalty again, that was Donald Trump’s directive from day one.
We’ll look at this case very closely and that will be decided down the road in accordance with the law. Let me assure you, justice will be served in this case.
The couple, reportedly on the verge of engagement, were shot after attending an event at the museum. The suspect, 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, chanted “free Palestine” as officers arrested him.
