“Pants on the Ground”: American Idol‘s New Viral Hit

“Pants on the Ground” is officially the first American Idol viral hit of the season. On Twitter, on Google, on YouTube — everyone wants to know about 62-year-old Larry Platt and his original creation.

Platt is also a former military man — that’s General Larry Platt to you — and though he is older than the 34-year-old cutoff date for AI, he’s not too old to know that pants should be worn snugly at the waist. Some lyrics: “Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground.” Oh and that sideways ball cap doesn’t impress him, either.

One of the interesting things about this video is Simon Cowell, who says that he can actually see this song being a hit — the indomitable AI impresario is, of course, unerring in his instinct. Well, he’s no Adam Lambert but he’s no William Hung, either. Enjoy.

Also, this guy has the first bootleg of “Pants on the Ground” from back in August — JFSkinnyElvis recorded Platt while waiting to audition for Idol, and last night when I searched it was at something like 306 views; now it’s already at 109,261 views.
