Ray Kelly: Case Against Officers in Freddie Gray Case ‘Weak’
Former NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly joined a growing number of pundits who think Maryland State Attorney Marilyn Mosby overreached in bringing charges against the six officers involved in the death of Freddy Gray.
“The case is perceived as being weak,” Kelly said George Stephanopoulos on This Week. “That’s the general view of the case. Certainly by the law enforcement people that I’ve spoken to.”

Mosby said Friday that the coroner had ruled Gray’s death a homicide and that her office had probably cause to charge the officers involved. The decision follows two high-profile cases in Ferguson, Missouri and Staten Island in which grand juries declined to indict officers for the deaths of black men, trigging protests.
“There’s a lot of soul searching going on now by chiefs thorughout the country,” Kelly said. “I believe police are more professional, better educated, better trained, more diverse than ever. These events totally can turn that around. We’ve made great progress in the last two decades. But you’re really starting from scratch in a lot of places.”
