Rick Perry Totally Understands Why North Korea Would Want To Nuke Austin, Texas

When a photo from Kim Jong-Un‘s North Korean war room emerged that showed Austin, Texas as a potential target for that country’s nuclear weapons, most Americans, including some from Austin, were a bit baffled. But as Texas Governor Rick Perry tells CBS This Morning in a preview from his interview set to air Thursday, it makes total sense.

Asked about North Korea’s decision to single out the relatively small city of Austin, known more for college parties and music festivals than for political power, he said he’s treating it as a “very real threat.” While he wouldn’t speculate as to whether North Korea has the missile capability to reach Austin, Perry did show some sense of pride that the city found itself on the “Very Important American Cities” list.

“Economically what has happened in Texas over the course of the last decade has made this city an epicenter for a lot of technology, a lot of economic development,” Perry elaborated, “and I think the individuals in North Korea understand that Austin, Texas is now a very important city in America as do corporate CEO’s and other people who are moving here in record numbers.”
