Ron DeSantis Mocks Trump ‘Lip Service’ In First Interview Following Fox News Debate

Governor Ron DeSantis wrapped his first post-debate interview with Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones by taking a clear shot at his primary rival, former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis claimed a clear victory over California Governor Gavin Newsom previously in the interview, which, judging by online reactions, appeared to make sense to Fox News viewers as the reaction to who won fell along party lines.

But while DeSantis and his followers present a positive reaction to the debate performance, they also appear to be whistling past the graveyard of his primary polling, where he is well over 40 points behind Trump in many polls. Not good, Bob.

“The elephant in the room was Donald Trump wasn’t there,” Jones said. ” You’ve got to beat him to be the nominee. What are you going to do differently? He then spoke about the people he sees in diners all over the country who “still are MAGA, MAGA, MAGA, Donald Trump being their guy. So how are you going to win a lot of these people that are within this diner?

Desantis said he’s the “only guy running that’s got a record of winning and winning big for conservatives,” later adding, “This isn’t just lip service,” suggesting the past president didn’t get the job done.

Jones followed, “Your message is Donald Trump didn’t deliver,” to which DeSantis replied:

Well, look, he had four years. Obviously, we don’t have a border wall. We don’t have a drain swamp. Hillary, he let her off the hook. And then we had a massive explosion of the debt. That’s just the reality. I don’t know how we would be better as a lame duck president, even if he could get elected. I have an ability to go in there, win a strong victory, serve two terms and deliver on all these things. And so, yeah, we need someone is going to fight. And Donald Trump would fight for people. A lot of establishment Republicans won’t even do that. They just cut and run. But you got to win these big fights. That’s what I’ve proven to do. And then you’ve got to lead with a vision that’s going to bring people together. In Florida, I took a state that was closely divided and we turned it into a 6040 state. We need to bring more people into the fold for Republicans. The local left is a disaster. Most people want another alternative. I think I’ve shown an ability to bring more people into the fold than he has to say.
