Set Your Phasers To Record: TLC To Debut Geek Love Dec. 18
Imagine if The Bachelor had a dude in a Boba Fett costume handing out roses. Awesome, right? With the Dec. 18 debut of TLC’s Geek Love, this is now a step closer to being a serious possibility. The show, a reality series that’s more documentary than game show, and produced by Authentic Entertainment (Flipping Out, Toddlers & Tiaras), follows single sci-fans as they navigate their way through the world of speed dating set up at comic-cons.
“Basically, I’m weird, but not that weird,” explains one of the women featured in the show. “And I would like to find a guy who is as weird as me, but not so weird as to be a serial killer.”
Who wouldn’t?
EW.com’s James Hibberd, who broke the news of Geek Love‘s pick-up, explains the show in a nutshell:
“Unlike former CW series Beauty and the Geek, the new show pairs pop-culture loving socially awkward singles with each other via Ryan Giltch, founder of a service called Sci-Fi Speed Dating.”
Part of the series was filmed at New York Comic-Con this October. As cool as it is to see a guy in a jean jacket trying to pick up a woman in a Wonder Woman costume, the best part of this show may be the familiar Darth Vader breathing pattern in the background of some shots (listen for it in the reel) — one of the hosts of the speed dating was in full Sith costume.
