SNL Brilliantly Mocks NBC’s Dateline And Host Keith Morrison

SNL has at last decided to comment on the cultural phenomenon that is Dateline Bill Hader, playing host Keith Morrison, oversaw a typical “Dateline” episode, ushering in segments like “The Mystery of the Chopped Up Dead Guy.” A be-mulleted Steve Buscemi played the murderer, and Kristen Wiig appeared as his, uh, beautiful and long-suffering wife. More important than the crime, however, was how stoked Keith Morrison was about all of this murdering! Dude was not shy about how much dead people excite him, even going so far as to bring a tub of popcorn into his interview with Wiig.

The highlight of the sketch was Buscemi and Hader sitting opposite each other in a prison interrogation room, making suggestive “oohs” and “yeahs” at each other while they recapped Buscemi’s crimes, and this sketch made good use of Hader and Wiig, two of the show’s MVPs. While I might be tempted to grouse about how Steve Buscemi was relegated to a lot of “creepy guy” roles in tonight’s episode, despite an opening monologue about how frustrating that type-casting has been for him, it suited him in this sketch.
