Soledad O’Brien Can’t Hide Her Feelings Over Ridiculous Segment On ‘Quidditch’ Enthusiasts

We always wonder how TV hosts and news anchors feel about the fluffier “human interest” segments they occasionally cover. Luckily for us as viewers, Starting Point host Soledad O’Brien is always open about sharing her thoughts on the news (or, as it happens, “news”), and this morning proved no different. O’Brien couldn’t conceal her feelings regarding a group of people who organize real-life games of Quidditch (the previously fictional game that appears in JK Rowling‘s Harry Potter series) in the hopes of someday having the sport included in the Olympics. Like you do.

After showing the segment — which included a young man uttering the line “I feel more comfortable running with a broom now than without one” — O’Brien immediately noted, “Wearing gold tights. That sport is never going to be an Olympic sport.”

But what about that age-old rule that any sport involving a “Velcro tail” is automatically entered in to the Olympic games?

“People just like to run around with brooms between our legs,” joked panelist Will Cain. “Yes.”

That said, we guess any sport comes across as patently ridiculous when you break it down to its elements: Smacking a ball with a bit of wood, only to try to run in a circle? Throwing a stick high in the air? Balancing yourself on steel blades as you attempt to dance in a shiny outfit? Still… Velcro tail. Velcro. Tail.
