Steve Martin Proves He’s the Master of the PBS Pledge Drive

If you’ve spent much time watching PBS, you likely know that the incessant pledge drives can be seriously sleep-inducing (as necessary as they may be). That’s why this new video of Steve Martin shilling for public television donations is so refreshing.

All within 60 seconds, Martin texts his celebrity friend Tom Hanks to ask for a donation, gets a beautifully snarky response and shows us a glimpse of the PBS “studio audience.” On top of that, Martin ends his pitch with a list of side effects you may experience after you donation, including “trouble logging on to a national health care website, “uncontrollable urge to play music and throw away film career,” “drunk calling Alec Baldwin at 3am” and much more.

Martin’s episode of “Great Performances,” in which he will perform bluegrass music with the Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell premieres March 4th.
