The View’s Sara Haines Sheepishly Asks if She’s Allowed to Call Trump a ‘Jerkoff’
There was humorous confusion on The View about whether Sara Haines ran afoul of the censors when she called former President Donald Trump a “jerkoff.”
On Wednesday, Haines and her colleagues talked about the limited gag order placed on Trump by Judge Arthur Engoron, who is presiding over the ex-president’s civil fraud trial. The gag order was imposed to legally forbid Trump from railing at the court staff, and Trump was ordered to delete his social media personal attack on Engoron’s law clerk.
Whoopi Goldberg asked why Trump is allowed to get away with his personal attacks and threatening rhetoric when the legal ramifications would be different if he were somebody else. Sunny Hostin predicted that Special Counsel Jack Smith will secure the gag orders he is seeking on Trump, and “I don’t know what that man is going to do if he can’t talk.”
Haines jumped in shortly after and referred to how Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale confirmed years ago that the trilogy’s villain, Biff Tannen, was based on Trump.
“So think about what he was like in 1983 when he was a jerkoff doing what he does,” Haines went on. “Nothing’s changed!”
As laughter rang out, Haines cut herself off — as she and Hostin asked if she was allowed to say that “jerkoff” on air. Goldberg told her “you cannot,” which Haines protested “that wasn’t even a swear!”
After some more confusion about whether she could call Trump a “jerk,” Haines exclaimed “I have no words left! I feel like Donald Trump!”
“We’re gagging you,” Joy Behar joked.
