‘This Boggles My Mind’: CNN’s Elie Honig Visibly Disgusted by Trump’s Comments on Ghislaine Maxwell Pardon

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig was visibly disgusted on Monday after anchor Wolf Blitzer showed him a clip of President Donald Trump boasting that he’s “allowed” to pardon Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted child sex trafficker and accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein.

“I’m allowed to give her [Maxwell] a pardon,” asserted Trump during a press conference alongside U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer earlier in the morning on Monday. “Nobody has approached me with it or asked me about it. It’s in the news about that, that aspect of it. But right now it would be inappropriate to talk about it.”

“So what stands out to you about those comments from Trump?” Blitzer asked Honig.

” I don’t know, Wolf. This boggles my mind,” replied Honig after shaking his head on camera. “It’s the same response he’s been giving. ‘Will you consider a pardon for a convicted child sex trafficker?’ I mean, the easiest thing to say is just, ‘No, of course not.’ What president wouldn’t say that?”

He continued:

And the fact that Trump keeps saying he has the power — and by the way, he’s right, he does have the power as unseemly as it might be –and then says, “You know, I haven’t thought about it,” I mean that’s the answer that Donald Trump has given many times in the past with other people who he did end up pardoning or commuting. So look, obviously there will be a serious political cost to doing that, but I think it’s pretty telling that Donald Trump has said anything other than “Absolutely not.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Maxwell twice last week to gather more information related to the Epstein saga, which has been plaguing the Trump administration for the last several weeks.

In 2020, after Maxwell was charged with child sex trafficking, Trump remarked that he had “met her numerous times over the years” and said, “I wish her well, whatever it is.”
