‘This Journey Has Been Hard!’: Today Interviews Olympian Lolo Jones On Staying A Virgin

Apparently 2012 is the year of the virgin athlete! We Americans just can’t get enough of these wacky kids with their thick necks and hairy palms. First, Tim Tebow became a national sensation and now we’ve got Lolo Jones, a track and field star getting ready for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. As a country, we respect these people for their perseverance, commitment, and faith. Mostly though, we’re just glad that, after high school, we’ve now found jocks we’re getting laid more than.

Jones, 29-years-old, first garnered attention when she announced that she was a virgin on Twitter. Then started the media blitz, first with an appearance on HBO’s Real Sports and then with a Today segment this morning. On it, she explained that it was a choice she made and that she wanted her virginity to be a gift she gives to her husband.

Not that it’s been easy.

“Please understand this journey has been hard. If there’s virgins out there, I just want to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”

Coming from what we know about Olympic Village, it isn’t going to get any easier… Oh well, we wish her the best of luck both on the track and out in the field.

Side note: There’s this weird thing in the interview where they keep showing Jones standing against a gray background while the camera randomly zooms in and out on her face? What is that? Is it supposed to be artsy?
