Trump Gives Ho-Hum Response When Reporter Asks, ‘Were You Aware of Elon Musk’s Regular Drug Use?’

President Donald Trump shrugged off a bombshell New York Times report stating that Elon Musk uses the downer ketamine more frequently than previously believed and often mixes it with other drugs.

On Friday, the Times published a story based on interviews and private messages with more than a dozen people close to Musk, who until this week served as a special government employee in his capacity as head of the “Department of Government Efficiency.” Though the Tesla CEO was statutorily required to leave the government this week, Trump said he will remain as an adviser.

Citing people familiar with his drug use, the Times said Musk occasionally mixes ketamine, which he uses “sometimes daily,” with ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms.

On Friday night, Trump took questions from reporters at Joint Base Andrews before leaving town for the weekend. One asked about the Times report:

REPORTER: Were you were you aware of Elon Musk’s regular drug use?

TRUMP: No, I wasn’t. I think he’s fantastic. I think Elon is a fantastic guy. And uh–

REPORTER: Are you troubled by these reports?

TRUMP:  I’m not troubled by anything with Elon. I think he’s fantastic. Did a great job. And, you know, DOGE continues. And by the time it’s finished, we’ll have numbers that’ll knock your socks off. It’s gonna be uh, he did a fantastic job. And he didn’t need it. He didn’t need to do it.

Earlier in the evening on CNN, Maggie Haberman reported that Trump officials “are happy to see” Musk leave the government, at least formally.
