Trump Interior Secretary Gushes Over Boss Taking Laps Before Daytona 500: ‘He’s Actually Leading the World Right Now’
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum heaped endless praise on his boss, President Donald Trump, on Monday – a day after he made an appearance at the Daytona 500.
Trump buzzed the annual race in Air Force One and was well-received by NASCAR fans before he ultimately led the drivers on two ceremonial laps in the presidential limo known as “The Beast.”
“This is your favorite president,” Trump said via radio to drivers before the race. “I’m a big fan. I’m a really big fan of you people. How you do this, I don’t know. But I just want you to be safe. You’re talented people, and you’re great people, and great Americans. Have a good day, and have a lot of fun, and I’ll see you later.”
Numerous networks carried Trump’s visit to Daytona – his second as president – live on Sunday, including Fox News. Monday morning, Burgum joined Fox & Friends, where co-host Steve Doocy asked him to weigh in on the moment.
Doocy asked, “Governor, Mr. Secretary, I think you flew to Daytona from West Palm Beach with the president, didn’t you?”
After Burgum confirmed he had traveled with Trump to Daytona, he said:
Well, Steve, watching President Trump in the beast leading the pace car, leading a field of the most talented drivers in the world, kicking off the entire NASCAR season for America. When he was doing that, it reminded me of how he’s actually leading the world right now. You know, I had an opportunity to be with them with Prime Minister Modi from India, with the prime minister of Japan. And the world is looking to President Trump for his leadership. And he’s out in front, and everybody is following his lead. And wow, is that great for America and great for the world?
