Trump Says He’s Not a Fan of Hydrogen Cars ‘Because When They Blow Up, They Don’t Ever Find the Body’

President Donald Trump held a rally in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday night, just hours after the House passed the Senate’s massive spending bill, which Trump lobbied for.

In a private meeting with congressional Republicans on Wednesday, the president reportedly did not know about nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts in the bill, which also cuts supplemental food assistance to millions of people. The legislation also extends the 2017 tax cuts and allocates more money to Immigration and Customs Enforcement than the vast majority of the world’s militaries. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill will add $3.3 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. His bill also ends the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit.

Trump took a victory lap at the Iowa rally and falsely claimed he ended a nonexistent federal policy requiring Americans to drive all-electric vehicles within a few years.

“I ended the green new scam and terminated [unintelligible]. This is insane, the electric vehicle mandate, where everybody had to have a car that happened to be all-electric in the next few short years. The mandate, some people wanna have gasoline-powered, some people wanna have hybrids. Maybe even some day hydrogen. Right now, I don’t like it because when they blow up, they don’t ever find the body. They find the body about five blocks away. That does not sound promising to me.”

Last year during the campaign, Trump took a detour in his speech about hydrogen cars blowing up. Days later at another gathering, he imagined Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) being incinerated in such an explosion.

“You’re not recognizable if something goes wrong,” he told the crowd. “If something goes wrong, and Marjorie Taylor Greene with that beautiful blonde hair is driving down the highway in a hydrogen car, and the problem with the hydrogen car, if something goes wrong, it’s like the atom bomb went off. You’re not recognizable.”
