Tsarnaev Prosecution Speaks: ‘This Is Not a Day for Celebration’
The prosecutors in the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev trial spoke this afternoon about the death penalty sentence, with U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz saying “this is not a day for celebration.”
Ortiz spent most of her time speaking touting the fairness of America’s justice system. She said, “Even in the wake of horror and tragedy, we are not intimidated by acts of terror or radical ideals.”
She made it clear that Tsarnaev, contrary to what he said, was not acting on behalf of all Muslims, and this was “not a religious crime.” Ortiz then said, “Today is not a day for celebration. It is not a day for political or moral debate. It is a day for reflection and healing.”
