Twitter Reacts to Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’ Returning to TV: ‘Make TV Great Again’

FOX announced Friday that it will bring back the hit series Last Man Standing to network television after ABC canceled the show just one year ago.

ABC faced a wave of backlash, particularly among conservative viewers, when it canceled the show last year, despite the sitcom’s competitive ratings. Conservatives argued that the network canceled the show because its main character, Mike Baxter, played by Tim Allen, was conservative.

ABC executive Channning Dungey denied the claims, saying that the network canceled the show “for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O’Neals, The Catch and American Crime. And Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

A year later, FOX announced Friday its plans to continue airing the show.

“Last Man Standing ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening. We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of Last Man Standing,” FOX executives Gary Newman and Dana Walden said, according to People Magazine.
