WATCH: Katie Couric Finds Out Who Manti Te’o Is Dating Now
One piece of Manti Te’o‘s interview with Katie Couric that curiously didn’t make it into her hour-long special today concerns the Notre Dame linebacker’s current, real girlfriend.
In the web exclusive clip below, after Te’o discusses meeting Ronaiah Tuiasosopo and his little sister for the first time, Couric says, “You were notified about Lennay’s death on September 12th, meanwhile a few weeks later or a few months later… you had started dating a girl named Alex Del Pilar. And apparently you were hearing from Lennay’s relatives that they didn’t like this at all. Right? What were they saying to you?”
“They were just saying, ‘she’s a gold digger, and a jersey chaser,'” Te’o responds. “And I was like, there’s no way she’s a gold digger, because she has way more money than I do.” And after his experience with Lennay he thought, “I’m just going to get to know her myself.”
The New York Post recently reported that the 21-year-old Del Pilar attends Notre Dame sister school St. Mary’s College and started dating Te’o less than a month after his supposed girlfriend’s death.
The pair’s first interaction on Twitter dates back to November 16th when she thanked him for a gift:
