WATCH: Protestors Chant ‘Liar’ Outside GMA Studio During Bill de Blasio Interview

Protestors gathered outside ABC’s studio in New York began loudly chanting “liar” as Good Morning America interviewed Mayor Bill de Blasio today about his plans to run in 2020.

The disruption from the protestors was so loud that at one point ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos pointed them out, prompting a chuckle from de Blasio who referred to the chanting as “a little serenade.” While the chant can’t be made out in the on-air version of the show — as it is mostly drowned out by the whistles protesters also utilized — a behind the scenes clip shared on Twitter by an ABC employee shows that the “liar” chant could be heard clearly in the studio.

The protesters who rallied against de Blasio, who officially announced his campaign plans this morning, appear to be mostly members of the city’s police force. Prior to their “liar” chant, the demonstrators also shouted down de Blasio as he entered the ABC building.

The New York City mayor’s entrance into the race marks the 23rd candidate seeking the Democratic nomination. He has focused on mostly anti-Trump messaging in the initial rollout of his campaign, as he says the president is a “bully” who “must be stopped” and that he can “take him on.”

“Don’t back down in the face of a bully, confront him,” de Blasio added in an announcement video today. “I’ve beaten him before and I will do it again.”

“Doesn’t matter if you live in a city or a rural area, a big state, small state. Doesn’t matter what your ethnicity is. People in every part of this country felt stuck or even like they’re going backward,” de Blasio said of the current administration.
