WATCH: Trump and Macron Plant a Tree on WH South Lawn
President Trump welcomed France’s Emmanuel Macron to the White House today, and the two presidents were filmed with their wives as they strolled through the South Lawn and held a brief tree-planting ceremony together.
The seedling, a gift from the Macron family, is a European sessile oak from Belleau Woods, where more than 9,000 U.S. Marines died in battle during World War I. Trump and Macron shoveled topsoil on the tree before boarding Marine One for a trip to Mount Vernon.
Trump didn’t say much to reporters, though he did express confidence in Mike Pompeo‘s bid to become Secretary of State. This comes after Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) offered last-minute support for Pompeo’s nomination.
Macron is at the White House for President Trump’s first state dinner this week.
