Whoopi Calls Out the Need For ‘Legal Notes’ Related to Trump After View Producer Prompts One for Trump’s 2020 Election Claims

ABC’s The View covered the vice presidential debate, and as they ended their first segment, co-host Sunny Hostin was asked to provide a legal note. This happens often, but on Wednesday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg wanted to know why, exactly, this was required of them.

The legal note was related to former President Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election, a fact that is not in dispute. The subject was raised during Wednesday’s Hot Topics segment while discussing the response (or lack thereof) provided by Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) about Trump losing the election.

Vance refused to answer the question and falsely claimed that Trump “peacefully gave over power” following the loss. Hostin argued earlier in the segment that Vance’s own election denial and his response during the debate made him “unfit” to serve as vice president.

As the conversation wound down and the commercial break approached, Hostin was apparently prompted by The View executive producer Brian Teta to include a legal note: “Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing related to the 2020 election.”

Goldberg, while the outro music played, continued to comment:

Goldberg: I find that so interesting. I mean, this is what, we have to do these legal notes each time. To say what has been proven to be a fact, we have to deny it on their behalf? Is that right?

Teta: We have to state the denials that they’ve stated.

Goldberg: One day you’ll tell me why.

Teta: I think I’ve told you a couple of times, but who are you talking about here?

Goldberg: No, no, not this. Because I find it odd when everybody has seen it and they know that it’s not necessarily the truth.

Teta: We’re showing what they’ve said on the record as their statement.
