FLASHBACK: Joe Rogan Said He Denied Trump’s Requests to Come on His Show Because He Didn’t ‘Want to Help Him’
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is set to appear on the The Joe Rogan Experience in the near future, but its host once said that he had turned down opportunities to have Trump on his show because he “didn’t want to help” the former president.
During an appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast during the summer of 2022, popular podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan said that he was “not a Trump supporter in any way, shape or form.”
“I’ve had the opportunity to have him on my show more than once. I’ve said no, every time. I don’t want to help him. I’m not interested in helping him,” he explained.
After Lex Fridman suggested that Rogan would eventually speak with Trump on his platform because he had had other controversial guests like Kanye West on, Rogan replied, “Yeah, but Kanye’s an artist. Kanye doing well or not doing well doesn’t change the course of our country.”
“Do you really bear the responsibility of the course of our country based on a conversation?” inquired Fridman.
“I think you can revitalize and rehabilitate someone’s image in a way that is pretty shocking. Look at the way people look at Alex Jones now cause Alex Jones has been on my podcast a few times,” answered Rogan. “The people that have watched those podcasts think he’s hilarious,” as well as “right more than he’s wrong,” in spite of the falsehoods he’s told about the Sandy Hook school shooting.
“Wouldn’t you be able to have the same kind of conversation with Donald Trump?” pressed Fridman.
“Yeah, that’s the problem!” exclaimed Rogan.
Trump recently teased the possibility of appearing on Rogan’s show and called him a “good guy.” But in August, Trump mused on Truth Social that “It will be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets BOOED the next time he enters the UFC Ring???” after he expressed his support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. Kennedy has since dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Trump.
