Travis Kelce finds his name in headlines for many reasons: his impressive stats as the tight end for the Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs, his famous singer girlfriend, and, after an article that stirred up some controversy, for his haircut.

A recent New York Times article headlined “They’ll Take the Travis Kelce — Hairdo, That Is” credited the football player for inspiring guys across the country to ask their barbers for “the Travis Kelce,” which was described as “a buzz cut fade” that was “easy to replicate.”

People were quick to point out that the haircut was neither invented by Kelce nor new, being popular in the military, the Black community, and others for decades.

Kelce addressed the kerfuffle on a recent episode of his podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, New Heights, named after their childhood home of Cleveland Heights, a racially diverse area.

In the clip below, Jason read from the Times article and joked about his brother getting credit for “inventing” the haircut.

“Get the f*ck outta here,” scoffed Travis.

“In hair-related news, it appears The New York Times has credited Travis with inventing the fade!” Jason continued, undeterred.

“This is ridiculous,” said Travis, before reacting in amused surprise when Jason read the headline. “Oh my God, what?! This is what it said?”

Travis then jokingly offered his thanks to whoever wrote the article, saying, “I had more barbers attack me, for not even having anything to do with this.”

“You invented the fade,” Jason replied.

“No, I didn’t,” Travis shook his head.

“What better month to credit a White man with inventing the fade than February?” Jason joked, referring to Black History Month.

Travis again insisted he had nothing to do with the story and did not invent the fade, “but I know where you can get a good one,” and touted his barber of choice.

The clip ends with the brothers discussing Travis’ playoff beard.
