JUST IN: Pentagon Confirms U.S. Service Members Killed in Kabul Attack, Fox Reports at Least 12

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby has confirmed that a number of U.S. service members have died as a result of the Thursday explosion at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

“We can confirm that a number of U.S. service members were killed in today’s complex attack at Kabul airport,” Kirby announced. “A number of others are being treated for wounds. We also know that a number of Afghans fell victim to this heinous attack. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones and teammates of all those killed and injured.”

The attack took place as the U.S. faces ongoing chaos amid continuing efforts to fly Americans and allied refugees out of Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover. The airport explosion was reportedly a suicide bombing, and Kirby confirmed earlier today that there was another explosion nearby at the Baron Hotel. The precise number of how many Americans and how many Afghans were killed remains unclear.

This story is breaking and we shall update accordingly.

UPDATE – 2:53 p.m. ET: Fox News reports that at least 12 U.S. service people have been killed.
