Nancy Mace Earns Praise from Trump on Heels of Report That She Mocked His Supporters

Former President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump reiterated his praise for and endorsement of Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) on Monday in spite of a new report indicating that she privately trashed his supporters.

According to Slate’s Jim Newell, Mace was frustrated by the fact that some didn’t understand her choice to wear a white shirt with the letter “A” on it in a reference to the Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter after she joined with Democrats and a small group of Republicans to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last year.

“Mace, closely monitoring the reaction to her stunt, privately griped to her staff that those who didn’t get it weren’t smart,” even remarking that they “were probably ‘Trump voters,'” per Newell.

But Mace disdain for Trump’s voters isn’t stifling the former president’s enthusiasm for her.

“It is my great honor to Endorse a Strong Conservative Voice for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District,” wrote Trump in a Monday afternoon Truth Social post. “Nancy Mace worked hard campaigning across South Carolina in support of our Record-Breaking WIN. In Congress, she is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my Complete and Total Endorsement! South Carolina, Get out to Vote TOMORROW!”

Trump and Mace have been on a long, winding road together. After the January 6 Capitol riot, Mace opined that Trump’s “entire legacy was wiped out” and called for him to be held “accountable.” But then when she faced a Trump-endorsed primary challenger a year later, she filmed a deferential video expressing her affinity for the former president. Mace went on to endorse Trump in this year’s Republican primary in January. She went on to prove her devotion by smearing former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who campaigned for Mace against the aforementioned primary opponent, as “China’s favorite governor” on Trump’s behalf.
