Sacramento Kings Coach Mike Brown Left Stunned After Maine Mass Shooting: If We Can’t ‘Fix This’ Then It’s ‘Over for Our Country’

After the Sacramento Kings’ season-opening win Wednesday night over the Utah Jazz, head coach Mike Brown didn’t feel the need to talk about the game.

Instead, he used his time with the media to address the shootings in Maine that unfolded just hours before.

Wednesday night, at least 22 people were shot and killed in multiple shootings in Lewiston, Maine. More than 50 people were also injured in the shootings, which occurred at a bowling alley and a restaurant. Though a suspect has not been apprehended, police identified 40-year-old Robert Card as a person of interest.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Brown said. “That is absolutely disgusting, and it’s sad. And it’s sad that we sit here and watch this happen time after time after time after time, and nobody does anything about it. It’s a sad day.

“It’s a sad day for our country. It’s a sad day in this world; and until we decide to do something about it — the powers that be — this is gonna keep happening and our kids aren’t gonna be able to enjoy what the United States is about because we don’t know how to fix a problem that’s right in front of us. Sad. I feel for the families.”

One reporter asked Mike Brown if he was interested in a basketball question. Brown refused.

“I don’t even wanna talk basketball. I’m sorry,” Brown said. “We played a game. It was fun. Obviously, we won.

“If we can’t do anything to fix this, it’s over. It’s over. It’s over for our country for this to happen time after time.”
