MAGA world showered President Donald Trump in champagne after he announced his intention to pause his plan for sweeping tariff on imports from around the globe — with the notable exception of China — on Wednesday.
In an afternoon Truth Social post, Trump wrote:
Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately. At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable. Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Subsequently, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke to the press, lauding their boss and tearing into the media for their lack of faith in him.
They were far from the only ones to pop some bubbly on the president’s behalf — though some conservatives saw things differently.
“This was brilliantly executed by @realDonaldTrump. Textbook, Art of the Deal,” wrote hedge fund manager, Bill Ackman, who also offered thanks “on behalf of all Americans.”
“Scott Bessent and I sat with the President while he wrote one of the most extraordinary Truth posts of his Presidency,” declared Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. “The world is ready to work with President Trump to fix global trade, and China has chosen the opposite direction.”
“Behold the ‘Art of the Deal,'” marveled Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA). “President Trump has created leverage, brought MANY countries to the table, and will deliver for American workers, American manufacturers, and America’s future!”
“Trump played them like a fiddle,” submitted Catturd.
But wait, there’s more:
