‘The United States Totally F*cked Ukraine’: OutKick’s Clay Travis Blames America for Causing War With Russia

OutKick founder Clay Travis claimed that the United States was responsible for the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia on Tuesday.

The war officially began in 2014 with Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and the conflict was escalated further by Russia’s invasion in 2022. At the time of writing, talks to end the war have yet to bear fruit. President Donald Trump recently hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office to discuss a possible path to peace — the U.S.’s continued support in exchange for access to Ukraine’s mineral resources — but those negotiations ended when the two presidents got into a public shouting match.

While Zelensky has reaffirmed his desire to resume talks, Trump and his team have repeatedly attacked him for his behavior in the Oval Office. Fox’s Peter Doocy reported Monday that Trump was demanding a public apology before resuming talks with the Ukrainian president.

On Tuesday, Travis explained on X/Twitter why he believed previous presidential administrations were to blame for the current situation.

“Hard truth: the United States totally fucked Ukraine and Russia and actually caused this war,” Travis said. “We promised Russia NATO wouldn’t expand to their borders — we lied & we told Ukraine if they gave up their nuclear weapons we would defend them if Russia invaded — we lied again.

“The real bad guy here is our country. And Trump has been left to clean up this total mess he had nothing to do with causing.”
