Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, continued to push back on baseless claims that former President Donald Trump was not provided with adequate protection, which resulted in a failed assassination attempt on Saturday at a Pennsylvania rally.
In a post on Twitter/X, Guglielmi responded to a claim by Susan Crabtree of Real Clear Politics, a right-leaning news outlet, that funds for Trump’s Secret Service protection were “diverted” to an event where First Lady Dr. Jill Biden was appearing. Crabtree cited “Secret Sources,” and others — including Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) — also claimed without evidence that Trump’s request for more security were denied. The Secret Service and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas denied those claims as well. Guglielmi called Crabtree’s claim “very wrong” and added that “protection models don’t work that way”:
Susan, this is very wrong. We did not divert resources from FPOTUS Trump & protection models don’t work that way. As far as “field office teams” these are the candidate nominee operations teams that are added during election years for the heavy travel tempo. https://t.co/ulf45qLAsO

The Secret Service has come under sharp criticism for failing to protect Trump from a shooter who killed one and injured two others at a weekend rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Mayorkas called the incident a “failure” on the part of the Secret Service, and President Joe Biden promised an independent investigation.
