30 Rock Predicted Cruz’s Canadian-Born Candidate Controversy

In 2011, the popular show 30 Rock included a pregnancy sub-plot that just so happens to still be relevant today: Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) and Avery Jessup (Elizabeth Banks) worry about giving birth to their child in Toronto, lest the baby grow up to be ineligible to run for president.

For two weeks now, this same issue has been rocking the political blogosphere as Donald Trump refuses to let Ted Cruz‘s Canadian birthplace slink back into its deservingly irrelevant corner of the collective American conscience.

The show even managed to get in a sly joke about President Barack Obama‘s birth, which many still contend today took place outside of the United States.
