Alleged Terrorist’s Plot to Attack Paris Church Goes Awry When He Shoots Himself

A suspected terrorist reportedly ruined his own plot to attack Paris churches over the weekend when he accidentally shot himself on the street.

According to Agence France-Presse, a 24-year-old Franco-Algerian IT student was detained on Sunday after he called for an ambulance to treat a bullet wound to his leg. Prior to the incident, he was already on the country’s intelligence radar for allegedly wanting to join up with Syrian jihadist forces.

When police arrived, the unnamed suspect had claimed he was the victim of a robbery — or the “settling of scores,” as AFP reported it — but his blood led investigators back to his vehicle, which was loaded with weapons (some apparently stolen from police) and notes about possible victims.

And so, naturally, they arrested him.

AFP also reported that the man’s DNA was found in the car of Aurelie Chatelain, 32, who was found shot to death in her car Sunday near Paris.

A search of the man’s apartment in Paris turned up “Islamic extremist material” along with even more weapons.
