Vice President Joe Biden posed for a selfie taken by a local Colorado businessman wearing a pro-marijuana T-shirt Tuesday afternoon, while holding an ice cream cone upside-down.
The businessman, Angel Cruz, tweeted out the image with the hashtag #hightimes, a magazine for pot enthusiasts. His shirt appears to be advertising the High Times Cannabis Cup, a roving marijuana trade show and concert venue. Marijuana is of course legal at the state level in Colorado, while still considered illegal under federal law.

The White House pool report contains a more detailed account of the encounter:
“He continued to take photos with onlookers, including Angel Cruz, the owner of Denver’s BambuCycles, who wore a High Times U.S. Cannabis Cup T-shirt. Cruz brought a green T-shirt with the words “I got high in Colorado” on the front. Cruz said he wanted to give the T-shirt to give to Biden but forgot after taking the photo with him.”
But the Associated Press’ Kristen Wyatt noticed that wasn’t even the oddest thing about the photo.

Biden is actually an opponent of marijuana legalization, and was considered fairly conservative on the war on drugs in the Senate, co-sponsoring legislation that set mandatory minimum sentencing for marijuana and other drugs.
