Steven Tyler Leaving American Idol

Our sister website Gossip Cop reports that Fox has announced that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will be leaving his judge role on their reality series American Idol.

Tyler has been a judge on the show for the last two seasons. His co-judge Jennifer Lopez also hinted this week that she is considering a departure from the program.

No replacement has been announced.

UPDATE: In a press statement from Fox, Tyler said he’s leaving the show to focus on making music again:

“After some long … hard … thoughts … I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”
