Chelsea Clinton has been more active and outspoken on Twitter recently, getting reactions from both fans of her mother who are glad she’s speaking out and, well, people who wish we could just move on from the Clinton family already.
The younger Clinton, who will soon be releasing a children’s book titled She Persisted, has been the subject of some speculation over a potential run for office in the near future.
But in an interview with Variety today, she seemed to close the door. “I am not running for public office.” said Clinton, adding she is “surprised” by the “hysterical” speculation of whether she would.
“I clearly do not support the president,” she added, “and certainly hope that he is defeated in the next election, but I don’t think I’m the best person for that job.”
Clinton did go on to say, “If someone steps down or something changes, I’ll then ask and answer those questions at that time. But right now, no, I’m not running for public office.”
We should note that in multiple interviews before 2016, her mother Hillary Clinton said she had ruled out another presidential run.
