Chris Matthews Blasts Hillary Clinton: ‘I Never Heard Her Come Out Against These Stupid Wars’
For Chris Matthews on MSNBC, there were three overarching factors that led to the seemingly imminent election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, and the seemingly imminent defeat of Hillary Clinton.
“The three issues that he tapped into — trade, immigration, and wars — I think he was on the popular side of…I never heard her railing against these stupid wars. I never heard her railing, genuinely, against these trade deals,” Matthews said.
Rachel Maddow took issue with Matthews’s interpretation of Clinton’s stance on immigration, and the two mixed it up for a bit.
“You think she should’ve tried to get to Trump’s right on that issue?” Maddow said, incrediously.
“The country’s against illegal immigration,” Matthews said. He added, “You know what the solution is to illegal immigration? What we have right now. That’s what the democrats want. That’s what the republicans want…And I think that Trump took advantage of it. And I don’t think it’s racist. The way he did it was, but I don’t think the issue was.”
Maddow laughed in apparent disbelief and said, “The way he did it was?”
