It’s the question people in Washington and beyond have been trying to answer for the better part of the past 24 hours: What did President Donald Trump mean when he said that a photo op with military leaders represented “the calm before the storm?” One network, in fact, has gone so far as to look for clues in the President’s facial expressions.
During a bill signing Friday in the Oval Office, the President was asked about the comment. His response was ever cryptic.
“You’ll find out,” Trump said. “We’ll see.”
But a wink from the President caught the attention of CNN. The network’s chyron read:
“Trump Winks: ‘You’ll Find Out’ What ‘Calm Before Storm’ Means”
During a panel discussion shortly after the bill signing, CNN political director David Chalian actually spent some time analyzing the wink.
“He was literally winking at us,” Chalian said. “As if the country was in on the joke with him. As he is creating mystery around something that could be unbelievably serious…This is Donald Trump the showman in full effect, with the added benefit — from his perspective — of using the military as his props in this.”
