Corey Lewandowski: President Trump Needs Communications Team With ‘Preexisting Relationship’
Corey Lewandowski, took the stage on Fox & Friends on Wednesday to put in a good word for — Corey Lewandowski.
The former Donald Trump campaign manager was invited by the panel to talk about the recent shakeup that resulted in the departure of White House Communications Director Michael Dubke.
“What do you make of this,” asked host Clayton Morris “Are you in the mix at all for this job?”
Lewandowski demurred on the question frontally, offering a standard, “that’s a decision for the president to make,” before then launching into an impassioned plea for — somebody — with a “preexisting relationship” with Trump.
“You have to have people who surround the president who are on his agenda. When you have a communications team they have to have that relationship with the president to understand how he communicates because he is the greatest communicator that we’ve ever had.”
“[Dubke] was brought into a job not having a preexisting relationship with the president. When you have a president who is so active, who is so articulate, who is so good at communicating with the media, sometimes you get staff who have to keep up with him and it’s much easier if you have people who have a preexisting relationship to understand how the president functions.”
Hitting the “preexisting relationship” note hard was a none-too-subtle reference to his own past relationship with Trump. The President is a known viewer of Fox & Friends and it wound’t be crazy to assume the Commander-in-Chief was watching.
So I guess we’ll see.
