Critics Pounce On Trump Over Declaration ‘I Don’t Want To Hear About The Affordability!’
Critics on social media pounced on President Donald Trump’s declaration that “I don’t want to hear about the affordability!” — casting it as a tone-deaf “Let them eat cake”-style moment.
Trump went on a lengthy rant Thursday when Fox News Senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich confronted him over Federal District Court Judge John McConnell’s ruling ordering the Trump administration to pay SNAP benefits in full by Friday.
But there was one part of the exchange that really caught people’s eye. After belaboring a false claim about Walmart, Trump dismissed complaints about the cost of living with a catchy phrase:
They do a synopsis of everything they they cover every element of Thanksgiving meals twenty five percent down so uh– I don’t want to hear about the affordability! Because right now we’re much less.
The moment went viral, with popular reactions following a definite theme.
“Marie Antoinette Quote of the Day: ‘I don’t want to hear about the affordability,'” wrote Politico alum Carla Marinucci.
Congressional candidate Fred Wellman (D-MO) wrote, “They can’t lie about what your life is like. They simply don’t care. Stocks are up. Missouri got rid of the capital gains tax. Millionaires like my opponent Rep. Ann Wagner are riding higher and us little people can have the crumbs. Had enough yet?”
Mediaite’s Sarah Rumpf wrote, “Here’s the soundbite that will be in ads for lots of Democrats next year. Between saying crap like this and bragging about his marble bathroom and $300 million ballroom, while trying to cut off food stamps, I’m not sure the DNC could script it better if they tried.”
Resisance juggernaut MeidasTouch predicted ads for Democrats as well:

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said:
Trump saying “I don’t want to hear about affordability” is a real gift. Usually he exists outside of the realm and logic of “gaffes” but that one is gonna get a lot of play.
